Environmentally friendlier Alternatives for Harmful Isocyanate-based Components

The primary aim of the MAGIC project is to use oleochemical building blocks to develop the next-generation of cold-cure elastomer formulation for rail fastening systems.

The influences of molecular structure, catalysts and other additives, fillers, ratio of reactants, and curing conditions on elastomer formation and final elastomer performance will be studied and compared to the currently used polyurethane elastomers. A sustainability analysis will be performed to assess the environmental performance of the newly developed material. The tangible end result of the project will be a railway support prototype provided with a cured 2-component elastomer material developed in the project.
